Weight Loss Injections: What You Need to Know

Over the last few years, a new class of medications has genuinely transformed what's possible in weight management. You may have heard of Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, these are brand names for drugs that are now being widely used to support significant, sustained weight loss.

How Do They Work?

These medications, Semaglutide (sold as Ozempic, Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (sold as Mounjaro), are weekly injections that mimic hormones your gut naturally produces after eating. They:

  • Reduce appetite significantly
  • Slow how quickly food leaves your stomach
  • Help regulate blood sugar levels
  • In clinical trials, have produced average weight loss of 15 to 20% of body weight

Are They Safe?

They have been extensively studied and are approved for use in the UK. Side effects are mostly gastrointestinal (nausea, constipation) and tend to improve as your body adjusts. They are not suitable for everyone, we will always assess whether they are right for you before prescribing.

Brand Names vs Generics

You may notice we can sometimes prescribe the same active drug under a different brand name at a lower cost. We always aim to find the most cost effective, evidence based option for you, and we'll be transparent about the choices available.

Not a Magic Fix

We want to be honest, these medications work best alongside lifestyle changes. We don't just prescribe and leave you to it. Our weight loss programme includes coaching, a tracker, and follow up support.
