Faster ADHD Diagnosis Creates More Transparent Teams
Improved access to ADHD diagnosis increases honesty at work. BGM Medical and Not Built For Small Talk help teams understand the strengths and friction of both neurotypical and neurodivergent thinking.
Faster ADHD Diagnosis Creates More Transparent Teams
When people cannot get an ADHD assessment, work fills the gap with guesswork. A colleague is labelled difficult. A manager is labelled unsympathetic. Nobody has language for what is actually happening.
Improved access to diagnosis changes that. A clear answer gives the person words for their own brain. It gives the team a shared fact instead of a private struggle. Transparency goes up because people no longer have to hide, and managers no longer have to invent explanations.
BGM Medical is a neurodiversity specialist clinic. We offer expedited ADHD assessments, typically within one week of request, including as part of a [UK employer healthcare](/employer-healthcare) contract. We have also teamed up with [Not Built For Small Talk](https://notbuiltforsmalltalk.com) to offer online courses and learning that help teams use that understanding well.
What faster diagnosis actually changes
A long wait does not only delay treatment. It delays honesty.
While someone is waiting, they often mask. They work twice as hard to look average. They avoid saying they are struggling because they do not yet have a name for it. Managers see missed deadlines or blunt emails and fill in the blanks.
Once a thorough assessment has been done, the conversation can change. Not into a demand that the workplace rebuild itself around one person. Into a clearer picture of how that person thinks, where they are strong, and where they need a different setup.
We have seen remarkable results when that happens. People become more open. Teams become less political. Performance conversations get more specific. Retention improves because the job stops being a daily act.
This is not a one sided adaptation brief
A lot of workplace neurodiversity training tells neurotypical staff that they must simply adapt. That is incomplete, and people can feel it.
Neurotypical thinking has strengths. It often holds sequence, social pace, and shared assumptions without effort. It also has friction. It can miss pattern, overvalue polish, and treat difference as a problem.
Neurodivergent thinking has strengths. It can spot what others skip, hold unusual detail, and cut through small talk. It also has friction. It can struggle with implied rules, sensory load, and the cost of masking.
Neither style is the correct one. A functional team needs both, and it needs people who can name the difference without shame.
That is the work we do with employers. We facilitate greater understanding. We do not hand out a script that says one group must carry all the change.
Our partnership with Not Built For Small Talk
We have teamed up with Not Built For Small Talk, a partner organisation that builds neurodivergent assessments and straight talking online courses.
Their courses, including Lead Different, Working With Us, Living With Us, and The Science of Neurodivergence, are aimed at adults who are tired of being told to just fit in, and at colleagues and family who want to do better than good intentions.
This matches how we practise. The learning is not generic inclusion theatre. It is about how different brains work, what each style is good at, and how people can work together without pretending they are the same.
Employers can include this learning in a BGM Medical contract. Staff and managers can use it after an assessment, or as a team before anyone has a diagnosis at all.
How BGM Medical helps a company do this
A typical employer arrangement can include:
- Expedited ADHD and neurodiversity assessment, typically within one week of request
- A clear report for the person, with workplace letters only where they have agreed
- Coaching or mentoring where that is useful
- Access to Not Built For Small Talk courses for staff and managers
- Same day GP access, first aid training, and wider corporate healthcare if the company wants a single contract
Clinical notes stay with the patient. HR does not receive a diagnosis by default. Transparency at work is chosen by the person, which is why it lasts.
Who this is for
This is for UK companies that want more honest teams, not a poster about inclusion.
It is for people leaders who suspect talent is being lost to masking. It is for staff who want an assessment that is thorough and reasonably fast. It is for organisations that are willing to look at both neurotypical and neurodivergent thinking, not only one.
If that is you, start with our [employer healthcare page](/employer-healthcare) or email contact@bgm-medical.com.
